There are two approaches to defining what is included as “confidential information”. The first is to keep it general by reference to markings as confidential or what the parties expect and agree to be confidential. The other approach is actually list what information is considered confidential.

The table below is compilation of the types of information that could be included.

Note that there is a gap in the field of natural sciences for example genetic sequences, chemical formulas etc. Some of these would be caught anyway as part of the definition of intellectual property.
